Crypto Talent Wire #7 - Crypto Hiring Newsletter
Edition 7 (2026-03-18) of The Crypto Talent Wire: Your bi-weekly update on blockchain jobs and what's happening in crypto hiring. Bi-weekly insights on crypto and blockchain hiring from TechChain Talent.
Mid-March and we're seeing some shifts worth discussing. Here's what's actually happening in crypto hiring right now.
🚧 The Job Description Problem
Every crypto job posting has the same generic language: "Fast-paced environment," "Cutting-edge technology," "Opportunity to shape the future." Cool. So does everyone else.
What good candidates actually want to know:
What specific problem will I be solving?
What's hard about this role that makes it interesting?
Who exactly will I be working with?
What does success look like in the first 90 days?
Why is your company different from the 50 others doing similar things?
⏱️ The Take-Home Assignment Problem
Companies are still sending take-home projects that take 8-12 hours. Top candidates have multiple opportunities and won't spend a weekend on your assignment when three other companies gave them focused 2-hour tests.
Keep technical assessments to 2-3 hours maximum. Respect candidates' time or lose them.
🪜 The Internal Promotion Blindspot
A company spent 4 months searching for a senior role. They hired externally. Three months later, an existing team member quit, frustrated they were passed over.
Faster (no 3-month search process)
Cheaper (no recruiter fees)
Better for retention (shows team there's a growth path)
Lower risk (you already know how they work)
🎓 The Overqualified Candidate Mistake
A candidate seems "too senior" for the role. Companies assume they'll get bored and pass. But you never asked them why they applied.
Want less responsibility for better work-life balance
Believe in your mission more than their current role
Are tired of corporate politics and want to build again
Want to learn a new domain and are willing to step back
Stop making up stories about what candidates want. Just ask them.
🌏 The Diversity Sourcing Problem
The problem isn't that diverse talent doesn't exist. It's that you're fishing in the same three ponds: the same Discord servers, the same bootcamp pipelines, the same referral networks.
Partner with different educational programs
Engage in communities you're not already part of
Look at candidates from non-traditional backgrounds
"Hire for the company you're building, not the company you are."
Most companies hire for their current needs. Smart companies hire for what they'll need in 12-18 months.
