Software Engineer, Robotics
Location: London
Salary: £90K - £110K
This role is for you if you thrive on variety and love tackling the messy, real world challenges that come from integrating software with hardware. You will also be passionate about bringing robots to life and about reliability. No two days will be the same, but you can expect to: Solve challenging software problems end to end: spec, implement, test and maintain large systems and high performance pipelines Jump into unfamiliar software domains at breakneck speed.
One month you might be optimising real time algorithms, the next deploying the backend services that allow for smooth operations and fleet monitoring Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineers, product and customer teams to iterate and improve solutions Deliver real world impact today, using cutting edge robotics systems About the Company Our client is building robots that can handle the messy, unpredictable and chaotic real world.
They believe that by deploying today, they reveal second order effects and edge cases that cannot be seen in the lab or in simulation. Their mission is to become the UK's go to applied AI robotics team, and they will go above and beyond to get there. What they actually do: Build AI models and hardware that let robots work safely alongside humans, lifting, moving and getting stuff done better and faster Spend a lot of time on customer sites, to better understand and solve for the messy chaos of most environments Build, ship and deploy software that runs on real robots in live customer environments, not just in the lab or in simulation Think ten or more years ahead, reimagining manual labour and creating robots that become complementary assistants for labour intensive and physically demanding tasks They are a small, dynamic team drawn from leading AI research groups and top UK universities, founded by a team with a prior venture acquired by a major technology company.
The Role They are hiring a Software Engineer to own a key part of the robotics system end to end. You will spec it, implement it, test it, maintain it, and live and breathe the customer problem it solves on site. The work is highly interdisciplinary, so you may have experience across these or other areas: Image processing and computer vision High performance computing, CUDA Machine learning and reinforcement learning Networks, radio, wireless technology and protocols Data centre They are looking for someone with experience working in robotics.
About You You live and breathe code: a Master's in Computer Science or a related field, expert in Python and its libraries, expert with C and C++ You have built and shipped software end to end, whether in industry, academia or a scrappy startup, which is even better You are highly collaborative and love working with others: sharing knowledge, learning from and teaching others, and embracing feedback You genuinely enjoy working on software that touches real customers in live environments, not just lab or research code.
You want to see your work running on the shop floor, not just in a sim You are a fast learner and low ego, and you ask all the questions You are a practical problem solver who can take your expertise and tackle engineering challenges pragmatically in messy, real world environments Above all, they are building a team of creative, outside the box thinkers.
To thrive here, you are: Highly ambitious, comfortable taking a project from concept to completion, and willing to do whatever it takes to win Self directed and proactive, thriving in a dynamic, unpredictable, multidisciplinary environment An enthusiastic team player who asks questions, helps others and communicates effectively What Will Impress Us They love proactive doers.
Show them what you have built, whether interfaces, projects or experiments. Tell them why the mission excites you. Be bold, be creative, and do not be embarrassed to stand out from the crowd. Location and Working Pattern London office, full time, largely on site at four to five days a week. Expect vibrant startup energy with a team that knows when to laugh and when to buckle down.
Our client is an equal opportunity employer and encourages individuals from all backgrounds to apply. They offer competitive compensation, a very friendly team, a stimulating work environment and the opportunity to be part of something significant.
