Engineering Manager, Platform
Location: US or Canada
Salary: $183K - $240K
About the Company Our client is a global fintech and digital asset infrastructure company providing payments technology and blockchain-based financial products to businesses and developers worldwide. About the Role Our client is hiring a frontline Engineering Manager for its broader Platform pillar. The role sits at the intersection of people leadership and technical execution, with an expectation that you remain materially involved in architecture, implementation, debugging, and engineering tradeoffs.
You will build and develop engineers, own delivery for production services and platforms, and partner across product, security, and adjacent engineering groups. The emphasis is on resilient, secure, high-scale platform work, with strong comfort handling ambiguity and making pragmatic build-vs-buy decisions. The team values high feedback velocity and a flat organisation, and expects disciplined use of AI-assisted development with independent validation of generated code, tests, and system behaviour.
Key Responsibilities ● Build and develop a team of engineers through hiring, coaching, feedback, prioritisation, and performance accountability. ● Guide architecture, system design, engineering tradeoffs, code quality, and incident learning while remaining close enough to challenge designs and debug issues. ● Own delivery of production services and platforms with measurable reliability, scalability, security, developer productivity, or customer impact. ● Use modern AI-assisted development thoughtfully while independently validating code, tests, system behaviour, and correctness. ● Create clarity from ambiguity, make pragmatic build-vs-buy decisions, and partner effectively with product, security, and adjacent engineering groups.
What You Will Bring ● 3+ years of direct engineering people management with clear hiring, development, and performance responsibilities. ● Directly leading around 6+ engineers, including ownership of performance reviews. ● A hands-on M1 or tech-lead manager profile, and a genuine appetite for a frontline remit if coming from a more senior title. ● Specific examples of architectures, core components, and technical decisions, and your personal role in shipping them. ● Experience in modern backend services, distributed systems, platform infrastructure, production security engineering, or comparably complex infrastructure. ● Depth across consistency, fault tolerance, high availability, concurrency, async workflows, observability, performance, data integrity, and operational excellence. ● Disciplined, AI-forward engineering: planning with AI, reviewing generated code, testing edge cases, and verifying output independently.
Backgrounds We Would Love to Hear From ● Engineering Manager or Tech Lead Manager from core distributed systems, backend, or platform infrastructure. ● Leaders of high-volume APIs, event-driven systems, durable workflows, or resilient microservices. ● Platform or infrastructure managers from developer platforms, internal frameworks, deployment systems, compute services, or reliability automation. ● AI infrastructure or developer tooling leaders who have built agent frameworks, eval platforms, orchestration, or test harnesses. ● Security engineering managers from cryptographic services, secure execution, platform controls, or infrastructure security. ● Data-intensive platform managers from distributed data services, streaming, or transactional and ledger-adjacent infrastructure. ● Hands-on managers who combine big-tech engineering rigour with execution in smaller, faster-moving teams.
Nice to Have ● Production AI infrastructure: agent orchestration, evaluation systems, workflow engines, model routing, or safe deployment tooling. ● Security infrastructure ownership, including cryptographic services or secure execution. ● Blockchain or digital asset engineering experience.
